Be wary of this man.

blame I think this may be the guy I wrote about yesterday. Remember? The one who said, “God is watching over us” while eleven people died? Be wary of this man.

I just found this guy’s picture on Facebook and thought I ought to post it here, because you probably know him. If not, you almost certainly know somebody like him.

He’s conservative; he probably votes Republican, though he’ll tell you he’s politically independent; and he thinks the United States is a Christian nation, even though our Constitution never mentions Christ. He loves sinners–well, except maybe faggots and godless, atheistic secular humanists–and wants to save them from themselves and the world from them. He honors the presidency of the United States, but despises our President; and he loves our country so much he wants to tear up the Constitution and establish a theocracy. By force, if necessary.

He’ll tell you climate change is “the biggest fraud ever perpetrated against the American people,” even as we complete the hottest year in the history of climate studies. He’ll lie to your face and claim it’s not true that 13 of the 14 hottest years on record have been since the turn of this century and the other one was 1998. He’ll laugh about the possibility that sea level could rise enough to notice, even while small island nations prepare to be swallowed up by the waves.

He’ll say that “if you tell your kids they came from animals, they’ll act like animals.” Then he’ll claim we were all made out of dirt.

This man is a Fundamentalist. What makes him dangerous is not just that he’s so wrong about so many things, but that he’s absolutely certain he is right about them. Ask him what could potentially shake his faith in his beliefs and he’ll probably answer truthfully, “Absolutely nothing.” He is so certain, in fact, that he wants you to live your life according to the dictates of his conscience.

Saudi Arabia is ruled by men just as certain of their wrong ideas. Iran is ruled by men just as certain of their wrong ideas. North Korea is ruled by a man just as certain of his wrong ideas. America needs leaders who get their ideas and ideals from science and reason and compassion, and who understand they might be wrong about anything they believe and willing to learn better.

Be wary of this man. Be very wary of this man

Obama’s Demon

obama's demonWhen President Obama visited Nairobi, Kenya, recently, somebody was recording the event on video. While this was happening, somebody else evidently ran across in front of the camera, creating a dark, moving blur. World Daily News apparently thinks it might have been a demon. They ran the video below under the following headline:

Is this a ‘demon’ racing in front of Obama?

Note: For some reason, the embedded video only works sporadically. It is online at http://www.wnd.com/2015/08/video-is-this-a-demon-racing-in-front-of-obama/#ooid=5vZWFvdjpYQgD9QO3pYS4EFO6c-l6dlr.

WND is an extremely right-wing, fundamentalist, Christian ezine and blog that appears to be as interested in making money as “getting the message out.” I say this because of the overwhelming number of dramatic ads on their website and in their emails. Strange ads for preppie/survivalist gear, Russian gas masks, blood moons superstitious nonsense, and general sensationalism.

Beyond the ads, their content includes a lot of fundy nonsense, Tea Party politics, and end-of-the-age hogwash. Like all right-wingers, WND is extremely critical of our president. They appear to hate him. They criticize and resist everything he does. Now they’re suggesting he’s keeping company with a demon. They claim a “video editor” examined the film for them and seems to think it was weird.

A video editor who examined the footage told WND: “From a video editor’s standpoint, it could just be some sort of glitch. However, there doesn’t seem to be any logical reason as to why this glitch would appear as the rest of the video seems to be functioning fine. The image does look like some type of other-worldly being, but I’m sure everyone’s own imagination will conjure up what they would like it to be.”

WND

They don’t mention who the “video editor” was or what his/her qualifications were, other than just being a “video editor.” That doesn’t mean very much. My eyes are not as good as they used to be, so give me a little help here. Is there anybody who can’t see that Obama’s ‘demon’ is just some out-of-focus jerk running across in front of the camera at an inopportune time?

I suspect they know better. If this is their attempt at satire, it is entirely out of place in a context where it actually looks like their attempts at serious content.

One More Psychic Fraud Exposed

The Amazing Randi does it again!

Notice the huckster’s hand movements and other motions? A true psychic shouldn’t need that. After all, his power is supposed to be in his mind. All the hocus-pocus serves only to distract our attention from what he is really trying to do–move the pencil and the pages of the phone book by blowing on them. He’s just an ordinary magician. Like Randi himself! And that would be OK. But he lies about it, and that’s NOT OK.

Randi’s $10,000 challenge was later raised to a million dollars for many years, and still no true psychic was ever found. Of course, it really shouldn’t be any surprise. If even just one person on earth had real psychic powers, don’t you think he or she would quickly wipe out every casino in Las Vegas?
